The date is now confirmed, and he will bring his guitar and join the cast for several songs, including the iconic “Can’t Fight This Feeling.” He will also be available after the show for a meet and greet and photo opportunity in the ABT lobby.

Turning It Up To 11

It’s opening week at Arizona Broadway Theatre, and the energy is all rock ‘n roll around here.  ABT is turning it up to 11 with Rock of Ages, and the halls are filled with big sound from the rehearsal room, the stage and the orchestra pit.  The costume shop is busy with big hair wigs and 1980 style, and the set and props crew are almost done with replicating the Sunset Strip on stage.

Director Kurtis W. Overby shares his thoughts on the show:

If you want to see a high echelon show with a focus on meaningful thoughts, you are probably in the wrong place. If you want to escape to another era that includes power ballads, sprinkled with boob jokes and strippers, then buckle up. You’re in for a treat.  Rock of Ages is a light-hearted show and focuses on the cleverness of how songs from the 1980s are intertwined within a funny love story.

I’m hoping that the experience will allow you to be transported back to that time. And I hope that feeling of nostalgia rushes over you, as you find yourself singing along with the songs. (Which we encourage!) But I hope, most of all, you lose yourself for a few hours from the hustle and bustle of those busy lives and have a rocking good time.

It’s loud. It’s funny. And if you’re easily offended, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Church Basement Ladies Opens Sept. 22, 2016

In rural Minnesota, 1965, the ladies of the local church fortify their flock with love, wisdom and, of course, the food they prepare in the church’s basement kitchen. Inspired by the best-selling book Growing Up Lutheran, Church Basement Ladies mixes together delightful original music, endearing characters, and hilarious scenes to yield a deliciously funny musical comedy. Church Basement Ladies, a celebration of the church basement kitchen and the women who work there, features four distinct characters and their relationships as they organize the food and the problems of a rural Minnesota church. From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young bride-to-be learning the proper order of things, audiences get a touching, funny look at their lives as we see them handle a record breaking Christmas dinner, the funeral of a dear friend, a Hawaiian Easter Fundraiser, and a steaming hot July wedding. They stave off potential disasters, share and debate recipes, instruct the young, and keep the Pastor on due course while thoroughly enjoying each other. Funny and down to earth, audiences will recognize these ladies as they begin to see the Church year unfold from below the House of God. This is most certainly true!

Broadway’s Best Party Comes to Peoria When Rock of Ages Opens May 27

Revisit your glory days as the cast and classic rock music take you back to the 1980s.

Arizona Broadway Theatre

Rock of Ages

Arizona Broadway Theatre

Arizona Broadway Theatre is cranking it up to 11 with the 6th show of the 11th Season, Rock of Ages! The Broadway smash about rock and roll dreams set to the biggest classic rock hits of the 1980s runs from May 27-June 19.

Making its Arizona debut, Rock of Ages chronicles the love between aspiring rocker Drew and would-be actress Sherrie set to a soundtrack featuring the music of REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Poison, and more.

Visiting talents, Seth Hunter and Laurie Gardner, bring Drew and Sherrie to life in ABT’s production, joined by a tremendous cast and behind the scenes crew. Hunter shares his enthusiasm for this role, “Everyone has an inner rock star that just wants to break out,” and his excitement for the audience, “The show is just a giant party. This show does a great job making people forget about their lives outside of the theatre and pulls them into this fantastic world.”

“Rock of Ages is such a fun show, because it never takes itself too seriously,” says Director/Choreographer Kurtis W. Overby. “It’s like being part of a music video; it moves quickly and is full of nostalgia for all things 1980s.” The live band onstage and playlist of classics is sure to provide a great time for everyone.

ABT has planned drinks, a menu and several surprises for the run of the show. From guest appearances to special interactions for patrons with the cast and set, Rock of Ages will be Peoria’s biggest party. Get your tickets in person, online or call the box office at (623) 776-8400.

Shrek The Musical Runs July 15-August 14, 2016

Everyone’s favorite ogre comes to life in Peoria when Arizona Broadway Theatre presents Shrek The Musical, a lively song-and-dance-filled stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film. The show will run from July 15-August 14, 2016.

Featuring Jason E. Simon as Shrek, back on the ABT stage after huge acclaim as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof earlier this year. The second to the last show in a well-received Season 11, ABT now brings Valley audiences this faraway kingdom with a twist. In the Kingdom of Duloc things get ugly when an unseemly ogre – not a handsome prince – shows up to rescue a headstrong princess. Throw in a donkey that won’t shut up, a bad guy with a short temper, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film, this live stage version of Shrek The Musical was nominated for eight Tony Awards including best score and best book for a musical when it originally opened on Broadway in 2008. “Shrek the Musical” is part romance, part fractured fairy tale and 100% irreverent fun for the whole family.
