Local Auditions

 

Arizona Broadway Theatre is seeking talented young singer/actors between the ages of 8 and 12 for the youth ensemble of our upcoming production of The Little Mermaid. Auditions will be held Monday, April 20, in the Encore Room off the main lobby. If you have a child who would like to audition, simply email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with "Little Mermaid audition" in the subject line; there is no need to schedule a separate time.

The auditions will start promptly at 4 p.m. No appointment or advance preparation is necessary; the children will be taught the music at the audition. Parents should bring a headshot (or picture) of their child and a resume (if available) to the auditions. Enter through the main entrance at the front of the theatre.

Rehearsals for The Little Mermaid will begin the week of April 27, and the run of the show is May 22 – June 21. Additional rehearsal and performance information will be made available at the auditions.

New York City Auditions

Arizona Broadway Theatre is holding non-Equity auditions by appointment on April 27, 2015, for the following shows in its upcoming 10th and 11th seasons.

LEGALLY BLONDE:
Rehearsals begin June 22, runs July 10 – August 9, 2015

Paulette - Brash, caring, optimistic hair stylist who befriends Elle and longs to find a man for herself.
Female, plays 30-45
Mezzo-Soprano belter, A3-A5                         


WEST SIDE STORY:
Rehearsals begin the week of September 23, runs October 16 – November 15, 2015
All roles open, specifically seeking the following:

Tony - A romantic young man and former leader of the Jets, he has found a new lifestyle now. Tony finds himself violently torn between his friendships and his love for Maria. Genuinely sweet and sincere.
Male, plays 22-30
Tenor, Bb2-Bb4                   

Maria - Bernardo's sister, a hopeless romantic and innocent young girl. She falls in love with Tony and finds herself at the center of the violent conflict between the two gangs.
Female, Puerto Rican, plays 18-22
Soprano, Bb3-C6

Anita - Bernardo's girlfriend and Maria's friend, feisty and assertive. She dispenses "older sister" advice to Maria and tries to shield her from the dangers of the gangs.

Bernardo - Maria's brother and Anita's boyfriend, leader of the Sharks gang, a proud, strong, handsome man. Bernardo seeks to carve out territory as a sense of identity for himself and his friends.

CAROUSEL:
Rehearsals begin the week of December 14, runs January 15 – February 14, 2015
All roles open, specifically seeking the following:

Billy Bigelow - A successful barker for the Mullin Carousel; attractive to the young women, he is a rogue and ladies’ man. Has never learned to deal with anyone, especially those he loves, with anything other than violence.

Julie Jordan - A shy but headstrong young woman who falls for Billy, which ushers in a tumultuous relationship.
Female, plays 18-25
Soprano, Db4-Gb5

Nettie Fowler - Julie’s somewhat older and wiser cousin; runs the local “spa,” a kind of eating establishment. Takes in Julie and the unemployed Billy after their wedding; motherly; earthy with a powerful grounded presence.

Dramatic Soprano, C4-G5

Carrie Pipperidge - Julie’s best friend and a much more conventional young woman for her time, marries Mr. Snow and is happy to be subservient to him. Cheerful and quirky, great comedic timing.

Enoch Snow - Fisherman and future tycoon; has his whole life planned out, including his entire life with betrothed Carrie. Pompous and stuffy, strong comedic timing.

ABT is a professional non-equity dinner theatre that hires talent nationwide for its fully staged musicals. Equity actors are considered for certain roles, which will be listed as such in audition notices. ABT is not a participating EMC theatre.

Employment Opportunities

Costume Director

Arizona Broadway Theatre, a professional non-profit, year-round theatre located in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking a full time Costume Director to start as soon as the most qualified candidate is identified. The Arizona Broadway Theatre is currently in its tenth season, producing eight musicals and 6-8 Theatre For Young Audiences shows per year.

The Costume Director will be responsible for the planning, development, budgeting and control of all costume and wardrobe areas for all productions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the completion of all costume elements of a production to the Theatre's and Costume Designer's satisfaction.
  • Hire and Supervise staff in all costume and wardrobe areas.
  • Determine and manage the yearly budget for all costume/wardrobe areas.
  • Oversee the season schedule for the costume/wardrobe areas including designer due dates, costume staff schedule and wardrobe staff schedule.
  • Maintain costume production quality of the highest standard.
  • Analyze scripts and create costume plots.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

  • Working knowledge of costume and fashion history including costume manufacturing history.
  • Working knowledge of costume materials including historical references and modern availabilities.
  • Knowledge of and experience in basic accounting procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • A minimum of five years experience as a costume shop manager or costume director.

    Stage Manager

    Arizona Broadway Theatre, a professional non-profit, year-round theatre located in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking a full-time stage manager to start as soon as the most qualified candidate is identified. The SM will be assigned to 3-4 of the 8 musicals produced over the course of a season. The SM will run all rehearsals for each show as well as running all performances. The SM will supervise all actors and backstage crew members during production, dress and technical rehearsals.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Stage Management
  • Professional Stage Management Experience.
  • Excellent supervisory, leadership and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage shifting and competing priorities, exercise good judgment and discretion, and maintain a positive attitude. Please provide a cover letter and resume including salary requirements.

    Patron Service Associate

    Arizona Broadway Theatre, an award-winning dinner theatre in Greater Phoenix, has immediate openings for part-time Patron Service Associates. Qualified candidates should have experience working in customer service and sales. This position requires self-starters who are highly organized, personable and interested in advancing as part of an energetic and fast paced theatrical company.
    Educational requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent

    Skill set:

  • Excellent customer service background required
  • General computer skills (Microsoft Office/Outlook)
  • Social Networking savvy
  • The ability to up-sell
  • Problem solving
  • Be able to lift 25 lbs
  • Must have a friendly approach and work well with others

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Processing ticket sales for all ABT events via walk-ups, phone sales, mail orders as well as outside sales opportunities
  • Making cold calls; phone and in-person sales
  • A working knowledge of the ABT ticketing systems, including: account maintenance, seating and ticketing, and the creation of reports
  • Stepping in as night supervisor during ABT events. Duties include, but are not limited to: preparing the ABT lobby and restrooms, managing volunteers and greeting & seating patrons
  • Managing patron comments in a manner consistent with ABT's Standards of Service
  • Attending outside sales opportunities where ABT information is presented and marketed to specific groups (Trade Shows/Art Fairs/Luncheons and Vendor Events)
