General Audition Information


Arizona Broadway Theatre is holding non-Equity auditions by appointment in New York City on January 12-14, 2015, for its continuing 10th Anniversary season. Ensemble is available for most shows, along with the following roles:



ALTERNATE, Jean Valjean
- A poor peasant who rises to affluence, has great natural nobility and dignity. A powerful figure, ideally a large man with a character of operatic size and passion. NOTE: this is an ensemble track, covers the role of Valjean with guaranteed performances.

Marius - A member of the revolutionary student movement, attractive and romantic, but in a sensitive, 19th-century "Byronic" way.

Cosette - Fantine's daughter (first seen as and played by a child), delicate, elegant, vulnerable, and beautiful, falls in love with and later marries Marius. Light, young "floating" sound.

Enjolras - A charismatic political figure, the leader of the revolutionary movement. Very strong singer.

Charity Hope Valentine
- A taxi dancer at the Fandango Ballroom in New York City circa 1960, an eternal optimist who only wants "to be loved," yet more often than not she manages to fall for the wrong guy. Extremely strong singer-actor-dancer.

Vittorio Vidal - Italian movie star, suave and good looking, must be capable of believable Italian accent.
Male, plays 30-45

Nickie - Charity's friend at the Fandango Ballroom. A bit motherly; she's been there, dreams of getting out of the taxi dancer business. Very strong singer/dancer.

Helene - Charity's friend at the Fandango Ballroom. A follower more than a leader, not as sure of herself as Nickie, and not as optimistic as Charity. Very strong singer/dancer.

Ursula - Vittorio's girlfriend. Fiery, hot tempered, statuesque.

Herman - Manager at the Fandango Ballroom. Gruff exterior with a sentimental side, good comedian.

- A mermaid and King Triton's youngest daughter. Obsessed with everything about the human world, and dreams of becoming a part of life above the water. Hardheaded, naive, and emotional, but also kind hearted.

Sebastian - A crab and advisor to King Triton. A musical virtuoso who is constantly distraught from keeping after Ariel. Despite his paranoia, he can't bring himself to stand in Ariel's way.

Prince Eric - A human monarch who has no interest in taking the crown. A handsome, affable lad with a buoyant, adventurous nature.

Scuttle - A disheveled seagull and expert in human artifacts. Loudmouthed, optimistic, and a bit ignorant, despite his supposed expertise.

King Triton - King of the Sea and Ariel's father. Beneath his imposing presence and commanding nature lurks a harried single father who will do anything to protect his daughters. The death of his wife has also given him an irrational fear of humans.

Elle Woods
- The quintessential Valley Girl. Follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more to offer than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality.

Emmett Forrest – Smart, sensitive law school grad who takes Elle under his wing. Charming, quirky, loveable, and friendly.

Warner Huntington III - Good-looking but shallow and pompous guy who breaks Elle's heart and heads off to Harvard Law.

Paulette - Brash, caring, optimistic hair stylist who befriends Elle and longs to find a man for herself.

Margot, Serena, Pilar - Sorority sisters of Elle at Delta Nu. Always ready to pop in and help Elle; strong singers/dancers required.

Chad - Hunky UPS man who is lusted after by Paulette. Very physically fit and dynamic, strong dancer.

Annabel Glick
- A no-nonsense representative for the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn. Attentive and aggressive; becomes the unexpected love interest of Harry Witherspoon.

Luigi Gaudi - A mysterious, boisterous Italian who wears a beard and an eye patch.
Male, plays 40-50 yrs old
Range: B2 - F#4

Rita la Porta - Vinnie's high-strung sister with poor eyesight. Impulsive, erratic, and very insecure.
Female, plays 35-45 yrs old
Range: F#3 - D5

The Body of Uncle Anthony - The body of a man believed to be "Uncle Anthony," who Harry brings with him on a very special trip.
Male, plays 45-60 yrs old
Non-Speaking Role

Vinnie di Ruzzio - Rita's mild-mannered brother who is dragged into her mess. An optometrist with predictably conservative tendencies.

Auditions on Monday and Tuesday will be on the 12th floor; auditions on Wednesday will be on the 4th floor. Performers should prepare two contrasting 16-bar selections, and a short (1-minute) monologue.

Costume Director

Arizona Broadway Theatre, a professional non-profit, year-round theatre located in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking a full time Costume Director to start as soon as the most qualified candidate is identified. The Arizona Broadway Theatre is currently in its tenth season, producing eight musicals and 6-8 Theatre For Young Audiences shows per year.

The Costume Director will be responsible for the planning, development, budgeting and control of all costume and wardrobe areas for all productions.


  • Oversee the completion of all costume elements of a production to the Theatre's and Costume Designer's satisfaction.
  • Hire and Supervise staff in all costume and wardrobe areas.
  • Determine and manage the yearly budget for all costume/wardrobe areas.
  • Oversee the season schedule for the costume/wardrobe areas including designer due dates, costume staff schedule and wardrobe staff schedule.
  • Maintain costume production quality of the highest standard.
  • Analyze scripts and create costume plots. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of and experience in all areas of theatrical costuming.
  • Working knowledge of costume and fashion history including costume manufacturing history.
  • Working knowledge of costume materials including historical references and modern availabilities.
  • Knowledge of and experience in basic accounting procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • A minimum of five years experience as a costume shop manager or costume director.


    Stage Manager

    Arizona Broadway Theatre, a professional non-profit, year-round theatre located in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking a full-time stage manager to start as soon as the most qualified candidate is identified. The SM will be assigned to 3-4 of the 8 musicals produced over the course of a season. The SM will run all rehearsals for each show as well as running all performances. The SM will supervise all actors and backstage crew members during production, dress and technical rehearsals.


  • Bachelor's degree in Stage Management
  • Professional Stage Management Experience.
  • Excellent supervisory, leadership and communication skills.

    Production Manager

    Arizona Broadway Theatre, located in Phoenix AZ, is seeking an experienced theatre professional to work with key staff members and production personnel to manage the production elements of its performances, primarily an eight show season of musicals. The Production Manager will also work as needed with all departments and on projects to help ensure that the organization's theatrical production standards are successfully integrated and maintained.

    Arizona Broadway Theatre is currently in its 10th season, and operates as a non-profit corporation. Its year-round season includes eight musicals running 5-6 weeks each. In addition, we present 20-30 concerts, and Theatre for Young Audience productions, and summer youth academies complete our programming. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and manage production budgets for all productions and projects.
  • Develop and administer production calendars, including design deadlines, load-in and tech schedules, and all design and production meetings.
  • Guide the creative team through the design process to ensure the timely completion of designs and their execution within the allotted time, budget and personnel constraints.
  • Supervise Costume Director, Technical Director, Audio/Visual Supervisor, Properties Artisan, and Scenic Charge Artist
  • Provide oversight and management of the production process.
  • Assist with the hiring of designers and production staff. IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: -A minimum of five years professional experience as a production manager or key member of production management team. -A broad understanding of all aspects of technical theatre. -Demonstrated success with successfully developing, implementing and managing budgets, production calendars, and schedules. -Excellent supervisory, leadership and communication skills. -The ability to manage shifting and competing priorities, exercise good judgment and discretion, and maintain a positive attitude.     Properties Master
    Expires: 04/22/15 Full-Time
    Continuing Position Pay: Commensurate With Experience biweekly

    Working with the Scenic Designer, Technical Director and Stage Director, purchase, build or pull from inventory all necessary props for eight main stage and up to 15 Children's and small stage shows performed annually. Responsible for preparing props budget and monitoring adherence to approved budget.

    Experience working with properties in a live stage performance environment and the artistic ability to craft props are required.


    Patron Service Associate

    Arizona Broadway Theatre, an award-winning dinner theatre in Greater Phoenix, has immediate openings for part-time Patron Service Associates. Qualified candidates should have experience working in customer service and sales. This position requires self-starters who are highly organized, personable and interested in advancing as part of an energetic and fast paced theatrical company.
    Educational requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent

    Skill set:

  • Excellent customer service background required
  • General computer skills (Microsoft Office/Outlook)
  • Social Networking savvy
  • The ability to up-sell
  • Problem solving
  • Be able to lift 25 lbs
  • Must have a friendly approach and work well with others

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Processing ticket sales for all ABT events via walk-ups, phone sales, mail orders as well as outside sales opportunities
  • Making cold calls; phone and in-person sales
  • A working knowledge of the ABT ticketing systems, including: account maintenance, seating and ticketing, and the creation of reports
  • Stepping in as night supervisor during ABT events. Duties include, but are not limited to: preparing the ABT lobby and restrooms, managing volunteers and greeting & seating patrons
  • Managing patron comments in a manner consistent with ABT's Standards of Service
  • Attending outside sales opportunities where ABT information is presented and marketed to specific groups (Trade Shows/Art Fairs/Luncheons and Vendor Events)
