High School Student Wins $1500 and Opportunity to Perform in Mainstage Production
Sarah Pansing, a 16-year-old student at the Arizona School for the Arts, is the winner of the 2017 Arizona Broadway Theatre (ABT) award at Herberger’s Young Artists’ Competition. Pansing is the recipient of a $1,500 scholarship from ABT and will have the opportunity to perform with a professional cast in an ABT Mainstage production.
Sarah, a sophomore, is a member of the Arizona School for the Arts Glee Club and plays trombone in the school’s Brass Quintet. She was last seen on stage as Whatsername in American Idiot at Spotlight Youth Theatre. She will be seen next as Martha in Valley Youth Theater’s Secret Garden, which runs April 7-23, 2017. Other favorite theatre roles include Eponine in Les Mis (Theater Works), Anne Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank (Hale Theatre | ariZoni nominee), and The White Witch in Narnia (VYT | NYA Award). Sarah is also a member and dance captain of Spotlight Youth Theatre’s performance troupe, Pitches and Tones.
“The ABT team is excited to work with Sarah and support her growth as a performer,” said Cassandra Klaphake, Artistic Producer at ABT. “The partnership with Herberger and the opportunity to be involved with the Young Artists’ Competition gives us a great opportunity to support local youth and stay connected with future talent.”
