His birth-mother is out of the picture, his dad owns a drag nightclub, and his mom is the star of the show! Jean-Michel wants just one night with his parents playing it “straight” to impress Anne’s parents. What’s Albin to do? Based on the original 1973 French play of the same name, and later the hit motion picture The Birdcage starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, the ground-breaking La Cage aux Folles is not to be missed!
La Cage aux Folles is on stage at Arizona Broadway Theatre Jan 24 – Feb 28, 2020, and then transfers to the Herberger Theater Center in Downtown Phoenix March 6 – 22, 2020. All tickets can be purchased through the ABT Box Office by calling 623-776-8400 x0.

“I Am What I Am” IMPACT PROJECT
Opening on Broadway in 1983, Jerry Herman’s La Cage aux Folles broke barriers for gay representation by becoming one of the first hit Broadway musicals centered around a same-sex relationship. Since it’s ground-breaking Broadway debut, the show and the now infamous torch-song “I Am What I Am” have become an anthem for inclusion and acceptance within the greater LGBTQ+ community worldwide.
While the central theme of La Cage focuses on issues of acceptance and inclusion for members of the LGBTQ+ community, our intent with the I Am What I Am! teen-youth anti-bullying IMPACT PROJECT is to broaden the focus of acceptance and inclusion amongst all, especially teen-youth who confront the demands and pressures inflicted by today’s modern, fast-paced social atmosphere regardless of one’s sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religious, or socio-economic background.
