KNIGHTS, KILLER RABBITS AND SHOWGIRLS BEGIN 22 | 23  SEASON FULL OF HILARIOUS AND CLASSIC MUSICALS

Arizona Broadway Theatre announces its new season

(Peoria, AZ ) March 2, 2022 Arizona Broadway Theatre’s 22 | 23 Season best can be  described as a melting pot of hilarious musicals from Monty Python’s Spamalot, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and two newer Broadway musicals, Disaster! and Escape to  Margaritaville to the classics, Mame, Wizard of Oz and A Christmas Carol. Arizona  Broadway Theatre (ABT), a nonprofit performing arts organization, is known as the  premier destination for musical theatre and produces high caliber productions  showcasing locally and nationally acclaimed artists.

“We are excited to bring a new season of musicals to life here at ABT. Last week, we  had the chance to see many of our donors and subscribers in-person as we hosted a  special ‘Sneak Peek’ event, over three days, “says Kiel Klaphake, Executive Producer  and CEO, “Many have been loyal patrons of the Theatre for over five to ten years.  Some have even been here since the first show in the tent! We are beyond grateful for  their current support and excitement for the upcoming new season.”

The 22 | 23 season opens in October 2022 with Monty Python’s Spamalot, the  outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story lovingly ripped off from the  classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Monty Python’s Spamalot retells  the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table and features a bevy of  beautiful showgirls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people.

The holiday season at ABT starts on November 18 with a special Holiday Tree Lighting  Celebration in junction with the opening night of the holiday production. This year, an  Arizona Broadway Theatre holiday tradition returns with A Christmas Carol The Musical.  This lavish and thrilling Broadway adaptation of Charles Dickens’ story breathes  fantastic new life into the classic tale of Christmas tidings and heart-warming generosity.

Mame kicks off the new year in January at the Theatre which follows the madcap  adventures of everyone’s favorite aunt, Mame. Surrounded by an eccentric cast of  characters, she celebrates the Roaring ‘20s, shamelessly spoils her “little love,” and  perseveres through life with humor and style, all without missing a dance step. Jerry  Herman’s Tony-nominated score is packed with musical favorites “Bosom Buddies,”  “We Need a Little Christmas,” “Open a New Window,” “If He Walked Into My Life,” and  more.

Audiences in spring 2023 will be saying “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” as Arizona  Broadway Theatre production of Escape to Margaritaville comes to life on the stage in  March. This musical comedy features the most-loved Jimmy Buffett classics, including  “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Margaritaville,” “Fins” and many more.

Based on the popular 1988 MGM film, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels takes the audience to  the French Riviera for high jinks and hilarity beginning May 5, 2023. Sophisticated,  suave with a good dash of mischief, this hysterical comedy features a delightfully jazzy  score by David Yazbek (The Full Monty) and was nominated for a staggering eleven  Tony Awards.

Families and lovers of musicals in summer 2023 are off to see the wizard with Dorothy,  the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion with one of the the most beloved stories known and songs including “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” and “Over the  Rainbow.” Wizard of Oz the Musical, is based on the 1939 film, with songs and music  by Andrew Lloyd Webber and additional lyrics by Time Rice.

The closing ABT production, Disaster!, will have audiences laughing and dancing in  their seats, as it takes ABT mainstage in August 2023. This parody of 1970s disaster  flicks has larger-than-life characters, snappy dialogue, and features some of the most  unforgettable songs “Knock on Wood,” “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Sky High,” “I Am  Woman,” and “Hot Stuff.” This hilarious musical comedy was created by SiriusXM  Broadway host Seth Rudetsky and written by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick.
